COURSES DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED
Media Theory, Critique, and Analysis
Women and the Media
Course focuses on women of varying ethnicities and economic class and deconstructs myths engendered in the media that create social ideologies and reflect the hegemonic structure.
Gender Culture and Media
With a focus on masculinity, pornography, ability, queer, and transgender people, course analyzes the current and pervasive ideologies that create and fix stereotypes.
Culture Race and Media
In this course, students learn to analyze the subtle and subliminal messages about culture, race, ethnicity, gender, religion, class, and ability as presented through the media.
Media Theory & Criticism
In this course, students explore the diﬀerent theories and approaches to media and their impact on society and culture so as to inform and enrich their own work.
Media in the Digital Age
This course is a hands-on introduction to the tools, techniques, and concepts behind the production of digital media, including basic digital imaging, sound production, and animation.
Working alone or in production teams, students conceptualize, design, and execute a digital non-fiction documentary video on a chosen topic for a targeted audience. Students shoot interviews, gather supporting video footage, record audio, and subsequently edit the footage into a completed ﬁnal piece.
This course introduces the student to the digital video studio, including the studio control room in which they learn to conduct a live television program. Students learn to work together in a production group, develop their ability to collaborate on a live video production, operate professional video cameras, work with actors, and complete a short television program.
Fundamentals of Editing (Final Cut Pro and AVID)
This course introduces students to the editing of video and sound. The course teaches the process of digital non-linear editing using contemporary software tools as well as the techniques employed in the profession of post-production editing for movies.
Digital Photographic Production
In this introduction to digital photo production, students become acquainted with the concepts, hardware, and software related to digital image acquisition, manipulation, and output, includingscanning, masking, layering, retouching, and printing.
Directing & Pre-Production
This course teaches advanced preproduction and production techniques, including directing actors, dramatic/comedic eﬀect, pre-production management documentation, production planning documents, location issues, crew management, running an eﬃcient production, and more.
